Meeting Minutes:

Topic 1: Grievance Concern

• Eric Hamako presents on the topic of the college paying leave late

•  Faculty aren’t getting paid leave on time and the amount of depleted leave is incorrect because the college isn’t updating/applying the accrued leave.
• This sets up a precedent that the college consider this to be acceptable by the union and will continue to pay leave late
• possible solutions: circumvent ctclink and pay leave on time, the college could alert faculty of their “ghost leave” that exists even though the records do not show it.
• asks: vote on whether to pursue this grievance, pursue mediation, vote on whether to pursue this issue via other means (not a grievance)

• Discussion

• Does this violate the CBA? Has anyone been denied their leave?
• The wording in the CBA that may apply: “Leave shall accumulate at the rate of four days per quarter for Full-Time employees to be credited on the first day of each quarter” (p 14).
•  The college claims that they are tracking and crediting faculty leave. How are they tracking and applying it? Once we have clarification, it may help us to move forward.

• Decision

• The majority has moved to NOT move forward as a grievance
• The majority has moved to bring the issue to JUMC

Topic 2: Grievance Training

• DuValle shares a slidedeck for the grievance training

• Grievance: A complaint or claim against the Employer by an academic employee(s) or the Federation, arising out of the interpretation or the application of or any alleged violation by the Employer of the terms of this Agreement.
• Discussion about cognizance

• Cognizance is when you become aware of and understand that the Contract may have been violated.

Topic 3: Elections Committee Update

• George Beckley has taken over elections duties from Steve Bogart
• Getting faculty to fill in open spots on the current ARCs is discussed

• discussed having a tenure track faculty turned administrator on an ARC

Topic 4: Treasurer & Bargaining Update

• The eboard votes yes unanimously to give Kristine Petesch  ⅓ release time

Topic 5: JUMC Update

• Student evaluation process has been updated and details are in the All Faculty Fall Meeting slideshow page 25
• Late start classes and how they are handled should go through Faculty Senate Council (says JUMC)

Topic 6: Service to the College Update

• We have demanded to bargain, but haven’t heard back from the college in regards to this issue

• Kaitlin Gillespie is taking over for Bob Downing as our AFT Washington representative

Topic 9: New Faculty Brainstorm

• Discussion of salary placement meetings and having the union president at the meeting

• There is language in the CBA that says we are supposed to have union representation at these meetings

Topic 10: FPC Workload Brainstorm

•  Deans are giving more tasks to FPCs than is able to be done within the hours applied

• Plans to get in touch with FPCs and help them understand the CBA and parameters put in place by the contract
