Proposals (Decide) [4:05-___ pm]
AFT WA Ask – Donation of $1,000 from our local for UI Defense Fund
- Part-time faculty UI claims appear to be getting denied at higher rates. Judges appear to be changing their prior interpretation of what constitutes “reasonable assurance.” This raises a higher standard that is not in keeping with AFT’s understanding of the law.
- AFT WA (Enrie Morrison) – appealing to ESD and looking at legislative angles. AFT-WA is also working with legal counsel to work on test cases on establishing that adjunct faculty don’t have reasonable assurance, even if they:
- Are “priority hire”
- Usually receive a stable load of classes
- They haven’t had a class canceled in some time
- There is one test case in the works, but it is expensive. Seattle Colleges local has helped with this, but more $$ is needed. In addition, more $$ can help fund other test cases.
- Proposed Motion to donate $1,000.00 for UI Defense Fund
