Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is often remembered for his words- but he was also a labor ally who understood that racial justice and economic justice are inseparable. He stood with sanitation workers demanding safe conditions and fair pay. He challenged systems that concentrated power and wealth while leaving working people behind. He knew that real change requires collective action. As educators and union members, we honor Dr. King’s legacy by continuing the work he believed in: standing together, advocating for dignity in the workplace, and building institutions that serve all members of our community.Justice is not passive. Solidarity is not symbolic. The work continues.Photo: Martin Luther King Jr. by Boris Chaliapin (1904–1979) / Watercolor and pencil on board, 1957, after Walter BennettGift of Time magazine ...
