🚨 Take Action Tuesday: Act Today 🚨The House budget includes Sec. 603(44), directing SBCTC to move toward closing at least one college by November 2026.This approach assumes a closure before analysis is complete and before faculty, staff, students, employers, and communities are fully engaged. Even signaling a possible closure can harm enrollment, hiring, partnerships, and long‑term planning across the system. Many colleges are the primary postsecondary access point in their region. A mandated reduction through the budget risks destabilizing campuses and undermining student success statewide.📣 Please email your legislators today and urge them to oppose closing a college.Who to contact:• The Representatives and Senator where you live• If you work in a different district, contact those legislators too🔗 Find your legislators:app.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/(Click your legislator’s page, then use the yellow envelope button to email.)Your voice matters. Please take action today. ...

Member Voice Thursday:How can we, as a college, a state, and society, afford to NOT support early childhood education and programs for Parent Education? Parent Education fills a critical role in early learning from providing affordable care and education along with early intervention, community building and outreach. Our seven cooperatives educate more than 500 students. Cutting our program leaves a gap for our college to have access to our student demographic. Cutting our program means workers are unable to earn a fair and living wage. Cutting our program means some will lose critical benefits.-Beth Edwards, Parent Education Instructor/Director#sccft1950 #aftwa #cooppreschool #saveourcoops ...

What’s Happening Wednesday:SBCTC is changing how state funding is allocated, including plans to reduce or eliminate FTE revenue attributed to parent education programs. Colleges rely on this funding to support cooperative preschools, covering instructional time, program coordination, and educator roles. While the details vary by campus, the impact is the same: less stability for programs families depend on.These funding decisions don’t happen in isolation. Across the country, educators are seeing the effects of budget cuts to schools and healthcare, attacks on student borrowers, and policies that create fear in our communities. That’s why today, Wednesday, March 4, our members are taking action nationwide to demand opportunity, safety, and affordability. For students, families, and educators alike.Join us and #March4Communities:👉 go.aft.org/ProtectOurCommunities ...
